Both are top of their game.

Both are trying to win that ‘under $3k’ home launch monitor market. Both are giving serious value with their pro-level features. 

We’ve spent the past 8 months playing with these two launch monitors in our Golfible testing center and now we’ve got a clear picture of how they compete head to head.

Neither is perfect but we will show which one performs better in all the key categories like:

• Game improvement features
• Fun gameplay features
• Accuracy
• Ease of set-up
• Simulated golf courses

We’ll also discuss which types of golfers may not find the Flightscope Mevo Plus or Skytrak Plus a perfect fit.

By the end, you’ll know exactly which one aligns best with your goals and style of play.

Skytrak Plus vs Mevo Plus: Features Comparison

Indoor Space Required

Skytrak Plus Indoor Space Required

The Skytrak Plus requires a far smaller space than the Mevo Plus to work indoors. 

Why is that?

It’s using photometric camera technology. This tech only requires a short ball flight to accurately calculate ball behavior. 

Perfect for indoor launch monitors.

• You’ll need 10 to 12 feet of room depth to use the Skytrak Plus indoors.
• Another way to look at it:
  • You’ll need enough space to comfortably swing your longest club (likely your driver).
  • You also need enough space in front so you don’t connect with the hitting screen on follow-through.

Mevo Plus Indoor Space Required  

The Mevo Plus uses a Doppler radar system, which needs to track the golf ball over a longer distance than Skytrak’s photometric system.

• Setup space needed:
  • 8 feet behind the ball
  • 10 to 12 feet in front of the ball
• Total depth required: 18 to 20 feet for accurate tracking
  • Minimum space: 9 feet in height, 10 feet in width, and 16 to 20 feet in depth

Our recommendation:

Flightscope states that the Mevo Plus can work with a minimum of 16 feet depth, but for more consistent readings, we suggest 18 to 20 feet.

Indoor Space Required: Winner

If you are in a tight set up, Skytrak Plus is the clear winner as it needs far less space to work effectively than the Mevo Plus. 

General Set-up

Skytrak Plus Set-up

For general setup, SkyTrak Plus has a more straightforward and quick setup process for alignment than the Mevo Plus. 

Its photometric system (using high-speed cameras to capture ball data) means it requires less calibration and positioning adjustments. 

• You just put the device down to the side of the golf ball
• Put the golf ball in the hitting area which is represented by a red dot shooting out from of the Skytrak Plus device (you have a 2 to 3-inch tolerance around the red dot where you place the ball and get accurate readings)
• With all green lights on the Skytrak Plus, you are good to play

The whole process is a few minutes max from power-up to play. 

Skytrak Plus Setup Advantages

• Easy leveling: Unlike the Mevo Plus, Skytrak Plus doesn’t require much adjustment for roll or tilt.
  • The software compensates for being off-level by up to 5 degrees, simplifying the setup and saving you time.

• Seamless network setup:
  • The WiFi connection is intuitive, following easy-to-read instructions.
  • Skytrak Plus generates its own WiFi signal, letting you practice anywhere without needing an internet connection—perfect for full flexibility.
  • This self-contained WiFi compensates for the lack of Bluetooth.

• Golf ball compatibility:
  • Regular golf balls work with the Skytrak Plus—no metallic ball stickers needed.
  • You’ll save on setup prep and eliminate the recurring costs of sticker replacements.

• Outdoor setup:
  • As quick and easy as indoors, but you’ll need a golf mat or tee for accurate readings.
  • Keep in mind: Skytrak Plus won’t give reliable readings from grass, so think about your practice preferences before heading outdoors

Mevo Plus Set-Up

The Mevo Plus, as a radar-based system, needs precise alignment in its setup.

Steps you have to take include:

• Use the in-built camera to line up your golf ball to the target
• Adjust the tee surface height so it matches your ball position
• Get the roll and tilt right on the device itself

Is it a little tedious? 

• Yes, but if you’re setting up in a fixed location (e.g., at home), alignment only needs to be done once. After that, you’re set for future sessions.
• For on-the-go use, like at the range or on the course, these alignment requirements can add some extra time and effort.

You might spend a few extra minutes getting the Mevo Plus ready behind your bay at the range, but it shouldn’t interfere with your practice time too much.

Planning to Use Mevo Plus on the Course?

I would not recommend using the Mevo Plus on the course during your round. Aligning the unit for each shot takes a few minutes which doesn’t mix well with a busy golf course where you have people behind you waiting to play.

FYI: Accurate indoor readings require metallic stickers or RCT balls. To help with this, Flightscope includes 100 stickers with your purchase. 

Again for initial network setup and connection, we found the Mevo Plus as easy as Skytrak Plus. 

Mevo Plus also has its own wifi signal so you get hassle-free connectivity on both launch monitors. 

Set-up: Winner

Skytrak Plus edges set-up because Mevo Plus can be tiresome in its alignment process.

Battery Life 

Skytrak Plus Battery Life 

Skytrak says in their marketing materials that the battery life for Skytrak Plus has increased to 4.5 hours from the original Skytrak’s 4 hours. 

Our tests show the Skytrak Plus battery lasts up to a maximum of 4 hours and 10 minutes—though often less, depending on how actively the processor is used.

In comparison, the original SkyTrak never reached 4 hours in our testing, usually maxing out around 3.5 hours.

While not designed as an “on-the-course” launch monitor, this 4-hour battery life is more than enough for range sessions or at-home practice

Flightscope Mevo Plus Battery Life 

The battery life for Mevo Plus was supposedly beefed up to 3 hours with the 2023 model.

Is that true?

Not from our experience. 

We didn’t get it over 2.5 hours before it went dead. Most reports online say the same thing.

Our advice: 

If you plan to play outdoors, consider using an external USB battery pack to keep your Mevo Plus powered for the entire round

Flightscope knows this problem exists so they took the logical step: 

They sell their own battery packs on their website.

Battery Life: Winner

I am giving Skytrak Plus the win here purely based on the longer-lasting battery.

Lefties and Righties

Skytrak Plus Lefties and Righties 

The Skytrak Plus is placed to the side of the golf ball and must be moved every time a different-handed player plays which is a pain.

If you’re hosting or playing in groups where both lefties and righties are present, this setup change will add time between shots and make the gameplay less seamless

Mevo Plus Lefties and Righties 

The Mevo Plus device sits behind the golfer and doesn’t need to be moved every time a different-handed golfer steps up. It will give you a better multiplayer experience as gameplay will be uninterrupted. 

Lefties and Righties: Winner

If you have a mix of left and right-handed golfers who will be using the launch monitor, go for the Mevo Plus assuming you have the indoor space 

Portability

Skytrak Plus Portability

The Skytrak Plus is bulkier than the Mevo Plus with dimensions of:

– Height: 6.8 inches

– Width: 5.75 inches

– Diameter: 2.5 inches

While it’s easy to carry at only 1.7 pounds, its shape means it won’t fit in most golf bags.

Handle with care: In our experience, the exposed glass screen on the Skytrak Plus is vulnerable and could be damaged if dropped, so outdoor transport requires caution.

Mevo Plus Portability

The Mevo Plus is more compact and portable than the Skytrak Plus:

• Height: 4.6 inches
• Width: 6.8 inches
• Diameter: 1.2 inches

Fits easily in a golf bag and is ideal for trips to the range, as shown in the image below.

At just over 1 pound, it’s lightweight yet feels more robust and durable than the Skytrak Plus.

From our experience, the Mevo Plus is better suited for transport and holds up well against accidental drops or knocks during setup.

Portability: Winner

Mevo Plus is easier to transport and it’s got a more durable construction than the Skytrak Plus. 

The Skytrak Plus needs more careful handling and it’s a bigger device so the win goes to Mevo Plus on portability.

User Interface

Skytrak Plus User Interface

We really like how the Skytrak Plus user interface looks and feels. 

It’s got the most aesthetic and clean design of the launch monitors we have reviewed. 

All the data metrics are presented on the same screen in a simplified way. They are easy to read so you can review your stats quickly. 

This design feature makes reviewing your performance after each shot effortless so you can improve faster.

If you are a beginner, you can very quickly get up to speed with how the different data metrics impact your game by watching the tutorial videos available by clicking the ‘i’ button above each metric. 

This means you can be confident that you’re using the launch monitor to its full potential.

What about visual feedback?

The visual feedback cues you get with Skytrak Plus to improve performance are better than Mevo Plus and most other launch monitors.

You’ve got all these visual benefits in Skytrak Plus virtual driving range:

• the shot optimizer (traffic light) system gives you visual feedback on the quality of each shot
• heat map on the right side for previous shots so you can get a visual look at your shot dispersion
• club graphic feature for a quick snapshot of your club data
• Realistic ball flight dynamics showing curve from fade and draws

For us, combining these visual cues with the Skytrak Plus’s intuitive design significantly boosts the speed of game improvement—a step ahead of traditional training methods.

Mevo Plus User Interface

The Mevo Plus user interface will not win any awards for aesthetic design. 

The graphics are basic when compared to Skytrak Plus. particularly the ball flight graphics that have an early 2000’s feel.

What does the Mevo Plus interface offer?

Customization.

You can delete and reorder data metric tiles on the Mevo Plus interface to display only the metrics that matter to you. This means each practice session is:

• Streamlined
• Goal-focused
• Personalized

Result? More productive sessions tailored to your improvement.

And there’s more data with Mevo Plus! It offers greater insights and added value with each shot, giving it an edge over SkyTrak Plus.

What about visual learning?

Skytrak Plus does have more features but Mevo Plus gives access to the face impact location feature.

By knowing exactly where on the clubface the ball is struck, you can make precise adjustments to improve shot accuracy and consistency.

This game improvement tool is unavailable with the Skytrak Plus. 

How does Mevo Plus offer more flexibility?

When comparing with SkyTrak Plus, the difference is clear.

SkyTrak Plus has a static layout, so there is no option to delete or reorder metrics. The Mevo Plus, however, allows you to fully customize your screen.

And there’s more.

The Mevo Plus app calls out your data points with voice messages throughout the session. This means:

• Smoother, uninterrupted practice
• Less time spent looking at the screen

This voice feature also benefits visually impaired golfers, offering them real-time performance insights they can hear, rather than needing to see.

You can also sync the Mevo Plus with your Apple watch and get all the shot data on your wrist. 

This means:

• Quick access to data without looking at your phone or iPad
• Effortless club switching and data checking
• A major time saver

Apple Watch compatibility isn’t available with SkyTrak Plus.

User Interface: Winner

This is a hard one as it depends on what type of golfer you are. 

Beginners might find the simplified data display of the Skytrak Plus more approachable, whereas advanced players might prefer the customized and detailed data analysis offered by the Mevo Plus interface.

Visual learners will benefit more from Skytrak Plus feedback features while Mevo Plus interface makes it easier for a wider range of golfers to improve. 

Because both user interfaces offer unique features for different golfers I am marking this one as a tie. 

Accuracy

We’ve put both the Mevo Plus and SkyTrak Plus to the test for accuracy against the Trackman indoors. For those interested in how each launch monitor measured up, you can find a closer look at the SkyTrak Plus performance and detailed insights on Mevo Plus results in my individual reviews

Accuracy: Winner

The results were encouraging.

Both launch monitors were within a comfortable margin of error given the devices measure metrics differently. 

How do SkyTrak Plus and Mevo Plus compare on key metrics?

Metrics like club path and face-to-path showed a more mixed performance for SkyTrak Plus, while spin axis displayed a larger variance for Mevo Plus

How accurate are they overall?

Considering both devices were tested against a $20k professional monitor, their accuracy levels were impressive across the board.

However, it’s essential to add a healthy layer of skepticism to any launch monitor accuracy test. Why? Different technologies use unique measurement algorithms, making direct comparisons challenging. 

It’s hard to directly compare them for accuracy but with more data points captured, the Mevo Plus has fewer gaps in understanding the shot’s behavior. 

You getting a more nuanced and accurate depiction of each shot so we are giving Mevo Plus the win here. 

Data Metrics

Here is a list of all the data metrics available with the Skytrak Plus.

What’s included with your purchase?

SkyTrak Plus includes all data metrics right from the start. With Mevo Plus, however, you’ll need to pay for an add-on package to access club data.

Why the price difference?

SkyTrak Plus has a higher base price to account for these added features, so everything’s included upfront.

What about future updates?

Angle of attack will likely be added to Skytrak Plus in the future according to their team.

Are these metrics essential?

Not necessarily. While these added metrics cater to technical golfers, they’re not critical for game improvement.

Instead, they serve as extra sweeteners for serious players.

Mevo Plus Data Metrics 

Here is a list of all the data metrics available with the Mevo Plus. The list is split between metrics included with your initial purchase and metrics added after you buy the ‘Pro package’ addon. 

For the data metrics on offer, this is an area where currently Mevo Plus is edging it over Skytrak Plus. 

Every data metric you see available on Skytrak Plus is also available on Mevo Plus but Mevo Plus adds in these additional metrics:

• Angle of attack
• spin loft
• dynamic loft
• low point 
• horizontal swing plane
• vertical swing plane
• lateral landing 

What does Mevo Plus offer for club insights?

Mevo Plus includes a face impact location feature, allowing you to see exactly where the ball strikes the clubface.

But there’s a catch.

You won’t have access to full club data (except for club speed and spin loft) or the face impact feature until you pay for the Pro Package and face impact upgrades.

This is around $1,000 for club data and $449 for face impact at this time.

Worth it? We think so.

With the Pro Package and face impact location, Mevo Plus competes with professional-grade launch monitors like the GC Quad in terms of data parameters.

And at a fraction of the price.

These pro-level insights into your swing and club delivery are going to make every session more targeted and purposeful.

Data Metrics: Winner

Because of these extra metrics, Mevo Plus is our winner.

Indoor Play

We’ve based our indoor play winner on a combination of the features we’ve already discussed, so let’s reveal the winner directly.

Indoor Play: Winner

There is very little between them for indoor play but for our preference, we would consider 

Skytrak Plus is a better option because:

• Setup is less temperamental and quicker than the Mevo Plus
• The photometric camera system means it will work in smaller indoor spaces better than the Mevo Plus
• Skytrak Plus user interface is sleeker and more user-friendly than Mevo Plus with more realistic driving range graphics and accurate ball flight physics 
• Intuitive game improvement features are a match for anything Mevo Plus is offering
• Having an integrated virtual course simulator like Course Play makes the experience more seamless despite the added yearly subscription

Outdoor Play

Again, let’s go straight to the winner here as there are only a few key points to decide this battle.

Outdoor Play: Winner

Neither the Mevo Plus or Skytrak Plus are perfect for outdoor play. They both have their issues. 

The Skytrak Plus does not read shots from grass accurately.

It’s recommended to only use it on a golf mat or tee when you’re at the driving range.

This rules out playing on the golf course completely with the Skytrak Plus. 

Grass driving ranges are also a no-go unless you only plan to use a tee.

The Mevo Plus will work on the grass so you can use it outdoors on the driving range.

How easy is setup with Mevo Plus?

Aligning the Mevo Plus and getting the roll and tilt correct can take a few minutes for each shot.

Doing this every shot could slow down your pace of play—especially if you have groups waiting behind you.

So, is Mevo Plus suitable for the course?

Not quite. Mevo Plus is better suited for practice sessions where time isn’t an issue. On a busy day, it’s not ideal for on-course use.

Our recommendation? For launch monitors you can use on the course, consider a competitor like the Bushnell Launch Pro or GC3.

Ok…but who is the outdoor winner from these two launch monitors?!

We have to pick Mevo Plus as the outdoor winner.

Why? It can read shots off the grass, making it suitable for grass driving ranges. 

SkyTrak Plus? Not as suitable. Grass driving ranges just don’t work with it.

Simulator Golf Course Access 

Skytrak Plus Simulator Golf Course Access 

Skytrak Plus has an in-house simulator called ‘Course Play’ so you can now play virtual golf courses on Skytrak’s software. 

No need to connect to third-party simulators. 

You can play bucket-list courses like Pebble Beach and Quail Hollow, with access to 30 courses included right now.

We would expect this course selection to increase in the coming months as software updates are added. 

But what’s the cost of Course Play?

To access Course Play, you’ll need an additional $220 per year subscription. While the graphics and features are smoother than E6, we did notice a few bugs.

Since it’s a recent release, we’ll give SkyTrak time to iron out the kinks.

The benefit? SkyTrak’s centralized support creates a seamless user experience—no third-party teams or integration issues.er.

The hassle of dealing with third-party support teams or software integration issues is eliminated.

FYI: Course Play is available on PC and iOS and you need an active Essentials plan ($130 per year) to ‘unlock’ this virtual course software. 

Bottom line: You’re looking at $350 per year ($130 + $220) to use Course Play.

You have another option too: The ‘E6 software pack’. 

You get access to 15 E6 courses with this package and 8 challenges for $120 per year. Again you need an active Essentials plan ($130 per year) to unlock E6. So $250 in total per year.

So that’s $100 cheaper than Course Play per year to play E6.

Why E6? It’s been around longer, so bugs are minimal. The graphics and ball physics are top-notch, and it runs smoothly on both iPhone and iPad

For us, its an easy playing experience.

One catch here: You can only play Stroke play with this E6 package, Match play or scramble are not available.

What about GS Pro, the most popular simulator on the market?

Skytrak Plus does not have official integration with GS Pro right now.

But you can still access it by downloading an open-source connector software. You don’t need an active Essentials plan to access GS Pro so you will only pay their $250 yearly subscription for access.

Simulator Golf Course Access Mevo Plus

Mevo Plus does not have its own in-house simulator. 

Instead, they have made a great deal with E6.

What’s included with Mevo Plus?

Mevo Plus comes with 12 E6 courses pre-packaged—no subscription needed. And yes, real-world courses like St Andrews and Pebble Beach are part of the deal.

And you can play on PC or iOS.

You can start playing sim golf right away without additional costs. After the initial investment, this feels like a more reasonable option compared to SkyTrak Plus.

Mevo Plus also has official integration with GS Pro so you can integrate easily with their software.

Simulator Golf Course Access: Winner

Because Mevo Plus includes access to 12 E6 courses out of the box and Skytrak Plus forces you to pay annual fees, I’m giving the win to Mevo Plus here.

If your main goal is improving your golf game, I think Mevo Plus and Skytrak Plus are evenly matched in this area as they both have great individual features for game improvement

For us, it honors even in this game improvement department as it depends on what features suit you more to improve your game.

Fun Gameplay

Skytrak Plus Fun Gameplay 

The Skytrak Plus challenge mode is where we spend lots of time with friends and family. It’s got:

• Target Practice: The closer you land your golf ball to the bullseye, the more points you score. Perfect for friendly competition. This also works great as a game improvement tool as you try to beat your high scores.
• Long drive competition: An age-old classic and the ultimate ego booster when played with friends.
• Closest to the pin: Choose a distance and take 3 or 6 shots to get as near to the pin as possible. It’s very funny to beat someone by a few inches in this game particularly when money is at stake. 

What does Course Play offer for entertainment?

Course Play, SkyTrak’s in-house course simulator, adds a whole new level of fun. You get access to 30 golf courses where you can play head-to-head for a full 18 holes.

For us, playing a famous golf course like Pebble Beach against your friend in real-time is where the real fun lies.

As mentioned, you will need to pay annual subscriptions to access Course Play, $350 per year in total.

Mevo Plus Fun Gameplay 

Mevo Plus offers many of the same fun challenges like long drive competition and target practice (available on the FS Skills app). 

Closest to the pin is unavailable surprisingly. 

Does Mevo Plus include an in-house simulator?

No, Mevo Plus hasn’t developed an in-house simulator yet.

But here’s the upside:

Mevo Plus includes 12 E6 courses with your purchase—no ongoing subscription required. In comparison, SkyTrak Plus requires at least $350 per year to access their simulator or $250 per year for 15 E6 courses.

What if you’re into GS Pro?

If GS Pro is your go-to for gameplay, you’re in luck with both SkyTrak Plus and Mevo Plus:

SkyTrak Plus has a workaround, so you won’t miss out on any of the action.

Mevo Plus has official integration for a smooth connection.

Fun Gameplay: Winner

If you’re hosting friends and looking for pure fun, SkyTrak Plus takes the win.

Why?

• It looks better, and setting up games is smoother.
• You get more game modes in one app, unlike Mevo Plus, where gameplay is split between the FS Golf and FS Skills apps.

What about long-term entertainment?

Though SkyTrak Plus has ongoing yearly fees, its in-house Course Play feature promises continued improvements. With regular software updates, you’ll get even more functionality and entertainment over time.

Skytrak Plus Price and Subscriptions 

Skytrak Plus retails between $2700 and $3,000 dollars at the time of this video. Skytrak includes all data metrics in this price including club data like club path and face to path.

The annual subscription called the Essential Plan for $130 will unlock access to challenges and game improvement features like

• Skills assessment
• Closest to the pin

What’s the cost of Course Play?

Course Play requires an additional $220 per year, so you’re looking at $350 annually (with the $130 Essential Plan) to access it.

Want a cheaper option?

If you choose the E6 Software Pack, it’s $120 per year on top of the Essential Plan, totaling $250 per year instead of $350.

With the E6 pack, you get 15 courses and can play on your phone or iPad—unlike Course Play, which is only available on PC

Mevo Plus Price and Subscriptions 

Mevo Plus takes a different approach from SkyTrak Plus. It’s subscription-free.

Initial Cost: Between $1,979 and $2,199—nearly $1,000 cheaper than SkyTrak Plus. Plus, you get 10 E6 courses included to start playing right away.

What about additional data metrics?

At this base price, Mevo Plus restricts access to certain data metrics. So if you want to access the following club data, you’ll need the Pro Package upgrade, which costs around $1,000.

We’re giving Mevo Plus the win on pricing. Why? The ongoing fees for SkyTrak Plus just to access simulation golf are a drawback—especially when Mevo Plus offers out-of-the-box E6 access.

And those fees? They could easily increase in the future, making the cost unpredictable

What do we like about Mevo Plus pricing?

Upgrade as you go. Over time, if you decide you want club data or face location, you can upgrade at your own pace.

Flexibility and simplicity. If you don’t need club data, you’re not forced to buy it. This keeps the initial cost much lower than SkyTrak Plus.

Shot Responsiveness

Related to user interface, shot responsiveness is the speed at which the launch monitor displays data after you hit the ball. 

Giving this real-time feedback with minimal delay is a key factor for many golfers.  

Skytrak Plus Shot Responsiveness 

SkyTrak listened to user feedback on their last model, and the new SkyTrak Plus interface is noticeably quicker and more responsive.

• Shot responsiveness has improved from about 3 seconds on the original SkyTrak to around 2 seconds on SkyTrak Plus.

For those used to instant feedback launch monitors like Mevo Plus, this may still feel like a big delay.

Personally, I enjoy the brief delay on SkyTrak Plus—I use it as a moment to predict the shot outcome, which helps with feel. 

Mevo Plus Shot Responsiveness 

The Mevo Plus shot responsiveness lag time is virtually instant, we measured it at approximately 300 milliseconds. 

For many of you, this uninterrupted flow of practice will be an important feature.

This is a win for Mevo plus as many golfers get annoyed by Skytrak’s two-second lag time.

Skytrak Plus vs Mevo Plus: The Verdict

Ok, so it’s time to answer that big looming question:

What is actually better? Skytrak Plus or Mevo Plus?

Neither of them can claim to be the better launch monitor. They’re just better for different types of golfers.

For us, we pick the Skytrak Plus.

Why?

• It works perfectly in our smaller indoor space.
• We love the quick wins from the visual game improvement features like the shot optimizer and club graphic.
• Playing virtual golf courses is seamless in Course play with no reliance on third-party simulators.
• The realism of virtual driving range graphics particularly the ball flight physics is as good as any launch monitor.  

Choose Mevo Plus if:

• You want a deeper dive into swing mechanics with advanced data metrics SkyTrak Plus doesn’t measure:
  • Angle of attack
  • Dynamic loft
  • Spin loft
  • Low point
  • Swing plane
• You frequently switch between left-handed and right-handed players or want an easy setup for multiplayer games.
  • Remember, you need a minimum of 16 feet of room depth indoors for Mevo Plus, though we recommend 18-20 feet.
• You want value without subscriptions. Mevo Plus includes 12 E6 courses with your purchase, so there’s no need for an ongoing subscription for virtual courses.
• You plan to play outdoors on grass often—Mevo Plus is a better choice for this than SkyTrak Plus.
• You want to record and review your swing. Mevo Plus can record and clip each shot for later review.
